The continuously deteriorating state of the law and order in Punjab has raised a series of scathing questions about the manner of functioning of the Punjab Police and poses a serious concern ahead of the Bhagwant Mann-led government.

Ever since coming to power, the AAP has launched a spree of transfers which saw a new DGP in the state along with two ADGPs law and order to ensure the state’s peace and tranquillity, however, to no avail as the status significantly remains in high concern.

Earlier today a similar transfers list was released that saw the transfer of 33 high-ranked officers in the department, which includes Kuldeep Singh Special DGP IVC Punjab, Chandigarh, and B. Chandra Shekhar Director, Bureau of Investigation.

In the past few months, the state has witnessed a surge in murder cases including a few high-profile members in the state, cases related to drugs, and even a rise in activities from Khalistani associates.

The transfer list that was released earlier in the day also saw the mention of IPS officer Arun Pal Singh, who was serving as the Commissioner of Amritsar. The border district has made the headline in recent times after a series of serious cases has come to the fore including the murder of a Hindu leader Sudhir Suri in broad daylight last week.

Inside story of Amritsar Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh’s transfer

Cases of drug abuse and crime have been on a gradual rise. Moreover, the local MLA from the ruling AAP Kunwar Vijay Pratap also showed his disagreement with the selection of Arun Pal Singh as CP Amritsar. According to him, he was not the appropriate person to take hold of city law and order.

Among other major transfers include Commissioners of Jalandhar and Ludhiana Gursharan Singh Sandhu and Kaustubh Sharma respectively both the officers from the 2001 batch and a total of 8 SSPs including SSP Mansa Gaurav Toora, who was in the post when Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder accused Deepak Tinu escaped from CIA Mansa’s custody.

The Punjab Police have majorly failed in putting a gag on the gangsters in the state as the cases significantly spiral out of the clutches. In the past week, the miscreants in the state have been successful in executing two high-profile killings that too in the presence of their gunmen.

Last Friday a right-wing leader Sudhir Suri was gunned down while staging a protest in Amritsar and two days back on Thursday Pradeep Singh a Dera follower was shot to death in Faridkot, while his gunman also suffered injuries.
