Canada: 20-year-old Indian student of Sheridan College dies after being dragged by truck

A 20-year-old boy was reported dead after he was hit and dragged by a pickup truck while he was crossing the road on a cycle. The incident took place in Toronto. As per reports by police, collision happened at intersection of Yonge Street and St Clair Avenue at about 4:30 pm in evening. Although, deceased was sent to hospital for treatment at earliest but he could not be saved.

As per information, deceased was identified as Katik Saini. He had come to Canada to pursue higher studies. Kartik hailed from Haryana’s Karnal and came to Canada in August 2021. Reportedly, Kartik was a student at Sheridan College.

Sheridan College sent an email to police investigating that matter which read that college fraternity is extremely saddened by sudden death of a student from their institution. They also expressed their heartfelt condolences to deceased’s family, friends, peers and professors. Now, as deceased was identified family is hoping to receive his body soon in India to carry out further cremation.

Regarding this case, police spokesperson stated, “The determination on whether charges are laid or not takes time as the investigators have to conduct a full investigation first. This takes time and is not a rushed process.”

Just a few days back another Indian-origin student who was 18 years of age was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old in the parking lot of Tamanawis Secondary School. He was identified as Mehakpreet Sethi. Police confirmed that while he came to pick up his younger brother from school, Mehakpreet got into a fight with accused who then stabbed him brutally.
