
In a major operation, Canadian Law Enforcement (CLE) has arrested and charged 33 people, mostly having roots in Punjab, India. These people are arrested because of their participation in transnational drug activities.
Other law enforcement agencies which were part of the operation were Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Peel Regional Police, and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
The drugs were illegally brought primarily from California, the USA, and also from India.
York Regional Police (YRP), which led to the investigation stated that "dismantled a large-scale international drug trafficking network that extended to western Canada, the USA, and India."
The operation, Project Cheetah, was started from May last year, was involved in importing illegal drugs in Canada. YRP said, "The drugs were then distributed across the country through a sophisticated system runs by the traffickers."
On April 8, Ontario, British Columbia, and California police have executed over 50 search warrants, resulting in 33 people being charged with over 130 offenses.
Among them, 27 people were arrested in the Greater Toronto area, out of them 23 are of Punjabi origin. The charges include drug trafficking, conspiracy for drug traffic, and procession of proceeding for criminal activities.
