A hearing was held in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday regarding the ongoing farmers' protest on the Punjab-Haryana border. During this, the High Court pointed out that according to the Motor Vehicle Act, tractor trolleys cannot be used on the highway. The High Court said that farmers will have to go to Delhi by bus or other means.

The High court also questioned the Punjab Govt. during the hearing about allowing such a large procession of farmers to gather at the Punjab-Haryana Border. The court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) moved by advocate Uday Pratap Singh, which pointed out that the road blockade is not only causing inconvenience to residents but also hindrance in the movement of ambulance, school buses and pedestrians since February 13.

However, the High Court rejected the petition to stop the farmers by closing the border. The High Court has postponed the hearing of the case till next week and has asked the Center to submit a new affidavit. This hearing took place in the bench of Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) GS Sandhwalia and Justice Lupita Banerjee of the High Court.

In the last hearing, questions were raised on the Haryana government. In the last hearing, Haryana government’s lawyer had said that the farmers could have taken permission from the Delhi government for protesting at selected places. On which the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court asked strict questions to the Haryana Government and said that they were only passing through the state as is their right.

Four rounds of talks of farmer leaders with the Centre have failed, even as the Union ministers met the farmers in Chandigarh in the presence of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann.
