Kolkata:  At least four people were killed and 26 injured after a wall of a temple collapsed leading to a stampede at Kachua in North 24 Pargana district of West Bengal midnight last night.
    
According to reports, a large number of people had gathered there to celebrate Janmashtami in Loknath Baba's temple.
    
However, the sudden collapse of the temple wall triggered a stampede in which at least four people were killed and 26 injured, some of them critically. The injured have been hospitalized.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rushed to National Medical College and Hospital and SSKM Hospital to visit the injured.
   
Ms. Banerjee has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
    
A compensation of Rs 1 lakh has also been announced for those critically injured in the incident, while people with minor injuries would be given Rs 50,000.
