Hailed as 'movie of the year' among the fans, the much-awaited trailer of the movie- Challengers was released on Tuesday and ever since then it started trending worldwide. Courtesy of its star cast which includes, Hollywood widely-followed actress Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead roles, Challengers is a sports drama that revolves around the love triangle between Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor. While Zenadaya plays the character of a famous Tennis player named Tashi Donaldson, Mike Faist plays the character of Art Donaldson, and Josh O’Connor plays the character of Patrick Zweig. Challen. Challengers are the latest project by filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, famous for directing Call Me by Your Name and more recently Bones and All. The movie is set in the Tennis background, therefore fans around the world are wondering whether Challengers is a true story or Challengers is a real story or not. Is Challengers based on a true story?

The answer is no. Starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead roles, Challengers is not based on a true story. Challengers revolve around tennis star Tashi, played by Zendaya, as she finds herself caught between two friends Patrick, played by Josh O'Connor who is best known for The Crown, and Art, played by Mike Faist who is best known for West Side Story. Luca Guadagnino was quoted by a news portal confirming that Challengers is not a true story but the movie was about “beautifully complex” people that he “loves very much.”

“And a sports film, why not? It’s hyperkinetic, and I do films, so it’s great,” Luca Guadagnino was quoted. He also told informed that Zendaya spent three months training with pro tennis coach and former player Brad Gilbert, who also served as a consultant for the film.

The official synopsis of the movie says that the movie "Follows three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court."

While Challengers is not a true story, but going by its trailer, it can be said that Zendaya is all set for another blockbuster. Challengers will be released in theaters globally on September 15, 2023.
