Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ announced the government’s decision to rename Chandigarh International Airport after the Indian Martyr ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh’.

The continuous efforts of the Bhagwant Mann-led state government have taken a huge stride towards being a reality. The Punjab government last month opened up the doors of conversation with the neighboring state of Haryana on renaming the Chandigarh Airport.

The story behind naming the airport after Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh is almost a decade old, however, the previous governments in the two states continuously failed to reach a joint consensus on the matter.

It was last month only that the decision was jointly announced after the meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. The development was later announced by CM Bhagwant through a tweet.
