A new video has surfaced in which RO Anil Masih can be seen tampering with the ballot paper which enraged the Chief Justice of India

In shocking news, a new video has surfaced in which the Returning Officer Anil Masih can be seen tampering with the ballot paper during the Chandigarh Mayoral Polls. The video was presented in court seeing which, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was enraged. In the video, Masih can be seen defacing the ballot paper with an ink pen, following which he looks directly into the camera, with a questionable expression.

 

The Chief Justice was absolutely livid upon seeing the latest video in which the Returning Officer was seen defacing the ballot paper. The video was doing rounds after the Supreme Court had told off Masih for allegedly tainting the elections, calling his actions a ‘Murder of Democracy’ and its mockery. “Will not allow democracy to be murdered like and that the apex court will order fresh elections if not satisfied with the purity of the elections”, said the Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The Supreme Court had ordered an indefinite of Chandigarh municipal meeting which was to be held on February 7 following the controversial affair.

 

The incident gained traction after AAP accused the officer of defacing the ballot paper, demanding his arrest. The party argued that they could have won he election if not for the eight cancelled votes. Along with that, Congress alleged that BJP leaders tore ballot papers and their members were exempt from seeing them. BJP's Manoj Sonkar was declared the victory in the Chandigarh Mayoral Elections.

 

Observing that returning officer Anil Masih has "defaced the ballots" in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, the Supreme Court on Monday summoned the official in question to remain present before the top court on February 19 to explain his conduct. The Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh UT was also ordered to hand over the entirety of the record to the Registrar General of the High Court for safekeeping and custody.

 

Advocate Kuldeep Kumar had approached the court demanding fresh mayoral elections. He had filed a petition alleging RO Anil Masih’s wrongdoing to the Chief Justice of India. The CJI was given a pendrive by lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, on which the video of Masih tampering the ballot was present. The CJI was enraged at Masih after watching the video.
