Chandigarh will go dark for ten minutes on the evening of May 7 as part of a citywide civil defense mock drill. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav announced that the drill is being conducted to boost public awareness and test emergency preparedness.
The exercise will begin at 4:00 PM with mock drills at two locations in the city. Later, at 7:30 PM, a blackout drill will be held, during which a siren will sound for ten minutes. Residents are requested to switch off all lights during this time.
Motorists have also been advised to safely park their vehicles and turn off headlights during the blackout period.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that this is only a preparedness exercise and urged citizens not to panic or fall for false social media rumors about ration or fuel shortages. Authorities are appealing for full public cooperation and caution against spreading misinformation.
