In the latest development, protestors demanding the release of Sikh prisoners had a clash with Chandigarh Police on Wednesday. During the clash, stones were pelted at the protest site after which the police stopped them with the help of a lathi charge and water cannons.

Reportedly, the peaceful protest turned into a violent clash between the protestors and Punjab, Chandigarh police. During this, the vehicles of Chandigarh and Punjab Police were also damaged by the protesters. According to the information, there was an incident of stone pelting at the protest site post which the anger erupted. Adding to this, some protestors wanted to meet CM regarding their demands and they forcefully tried to come near his residence by destroying all the barricading. As per information, the protesters also had bare swords and sticks in their hands. A large number of protesters tried breaking the barricades and moving forward. Seeing this the police tried to control the protestors with water cannons and lathi charge.

For the unversed, a large number of Sikh protesters have been staging a sit-in and fury march since last January 7 under the Quami Insaaf Morcha near Mohali Gurdwara Amb Sahib on the Chandigarh-Punjab border. Reportedly, last Tuesday, Kisan Union raised the issue of the release of Sikh prisoners in Bathinda.

The main demand of Sikh protesters is the release of Sikh prisoners lodged in jails, justice in sacrilege cases and quick punishment of the accused in firing cases. They further want that strict laws to be implemented to reduce the sacrilege activities in the state.
