A massive uproar has gripped Punjab’s Mohali-based Chandigarh University late at night after personal videos of 60 girl students have gone viral.

The protesting students have alleged that a fellow hosteller has recorded personal videos of 60 other girls and sent them to her friend in Shimla who posted them on social media which has gone viral from there.

The girl accused of sending videos and her friend based in Shimla, both are residents of Himachal Pradesh.

The police arrived soon as they got to know about the incident at around 2.30 late in the night, however, the girls fuming over the incident lashed out at the police and vandalized their vehicle as well. The situation at the campus is too tense.

The police are now involved in investigating the matter, in the entire incident the most important issue is the continuous development of the videos that are being recorded, the girl has been making the video for a long.

Amid the broil, a rumor of 8 students attempting suicide whose video has gone viral surfaced and has been denied by Mohali's SSP Vivek Soni. While addressing the media on the matter he said, "Forensic evidence is being collected. So far no attempt of suicide reported. Medical records of students have been taken on record. People should not pay attention to any rumor."

One of the prime angles where the police are involved is to find the purpose behind collecting these videos. Police have also initiated action to nab the man from Shimla who was involved in the entire case.

Punjab Minister of Higher Education and Sports Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer on the matter said, "It is really saddening to know about the unfortunate incident at Chandigarh University. Since this matter is very sensitive, it is my request not to forward any unsubstantiated news. There is no news of suicide by any girl student."

In a string of tweets made Hayer assured the students of taking strict measures against those involved in the episode, "I assure justice to University students, especially girls. The DC Mohali and SSP have been ordered to conduct a thorough inquiry into the entire incident. Guilty would not be spared."

The initial investigation into the matter has revealed that the accused girl in the case was making such personal videos of other girls for a long now and was sending them to her friend in Shimla. Who has made these videos viral now invites outrage from the girls involved in this?

Asking police to act accordingly in the matter Union Minister and BJP leader Som Prakash said, "It's an unfortunate incident. Police should take serious action against those involved in this incident so that such incidents do not occur again."

Among the series of comments involved in the case, AAP national convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal posted his remarks on Twitter and assured students and families of suitable action on the matter,

"In Chandigarh University, an incident of a girl student recording objectionable videos of many girl students and then leaking it online has come to the fore. This is very serious and shameful. All the culprits involved in this will get the harshest punishment. Victims in the matter must stand courageous. We are all with you. Everyone must act with patience."

The girls have also accused the university management of suppressing the matter instead of taking action. The commotion continued till late in the night.

As a precautionary measure, police have been deployed in the entire area. Due to the issue related to girls, senior officers have set up a camp there.
