Before the February 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress party replaced Captain Amarinder Singh as Chief Minister with Charanjit Singh Channi. The Congress's high leadership sided with Navjot Singh Sidhu in the conflict between Captain and Sidhu, and as a result, Captain resigned from his position and left the Congress party. A fight between Channi and Sidhu also began soon after Channi was appointed Chief Minister. Then Aroosa Alam said that Congressmen are paying the punishment for their actions.
