Bollywood films and controversies go hand-in-hand. Manyfilms which are based on historic characters faced criticism before theirrelease. Despite a delay in its release, threats to life, vandalism attack ondirectors, these films have gone through a lot of such things. Some of the filmswhich were opposed badly are listed below:
1. Prithviraj
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer film Prithvirajhas landed into another big controversy before its release. The teaser of themovie was released last month and the film is all set to release on 21st January2022. However, due to the increase in Covid cases, its release might get delayed.
Before its screening, the film has landed into a bigcontroversy. The Gujjars in Rajasthan have threatened to stop the screening of the Bollywood flick 'Prithviraj' starring Akshay Kumar if the movie continues usingthe term 'Rajput' for Prithviraj Chauhan. The community claimed that Prithvirajwas from the Gujjar community and was not a Rajput.
The film teaser represents the heroic story about pride andvalour that gives goosebumps to the audience. The film stars Akshay Kumarin the lead role of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan and Manushi Chhillar as his loveinterest Sanyogita and is based on late poet Chand Bardai's epic PrithvirajRaso. Other characters played by Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood are alsointroduced in the teaser.
2. Padmavat
The film Padmavat, based on Rani Padmavati, was incontroversy due to many reasons. People from many states of the countryincluding Mewar had protested on the streets and demanded to ban the film. Inthe song Ghoomar, Rani was shown dancing in front of men, to which there was alot of objection. The title of the film was also changed from Padmavati toPadmavat.
3. Bajirao-Mastani
Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra starrer the film Bajirao-Mastani was in a lot of controversies after its release. Bajiraowas shown dancing in celebration after winning the war, which was objected toby the descendants of the Peshwa.
4. Panipat
Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt starrer the filmPanipat had a lot of controversy for showing the wrong image of RajaSurajmal. As the controversy escalated, the makers edited and trimmed manyscenes.
5. Jodha Akbar
There was a lot of controversy over the 2008 filmJodha-Akbar. The people of the Rajput community protested against Jodhabeing shown as Akbar's wife. He said that Jodha was never married toAkbar. Many said that none of Akbar's 34 wives was named Jodha. Onthe other hand, many people also claimed that Jodha was not Akbar's wife buthis mother-in-law.
6. Manikarnika
Kangana Ranaut played the lead role in the 2019 filmManikarnika. Many facts were misrepresented in the film, on which a lot ofobjections were raised. Many people said that Rani Laxmibai has beeninsulted in the film.
