The towers of the World Trade Center pour smoke shortly after being struck by hijacked commercial aircraft on September 11, 2001. 

Over 3,000 people were killed in the attacks, including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. The second tower of the World Trade Center bursts into flames after being hit by a hijacked airplane in New York on September 11, 2001.
