While the Israel-Hamas war continues to escalate, people around the world are now puzzled deciding what is fake and what is fact. Apart from the traditional war, the Israel-Hamas war has introduced the world to information warfare and most credible news organizations are also becoming victims of fake news. Global news portal Al Jazeera on Wednesday was slammed on social media after the portal stated that hundreds of people died due to Israel Airstrike on a Gaza hospital including children and women.
Al Jazeera English live telecasted the Gaza hospital attack video with the caption saying, "Israeli air attacks have killed hundreds of Palestinians in al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City where thousands are seeking medical treatment and shelter from heavy bombardment."
However, on Wednesday morning Israel refused to drop any bomb on Gaza hospital. Spokesperson of Israel Defence Forces (IDF), RAdm. Daniel Hagari addressed a press conference on Wednesday and released an audio that claimed to be a conversation between two Hamas terrorists who admitted that the rocket fired on the Hospital belonged to their group.
"Trajectory analysis from the Barrage of Rockets confirms that the rockets were fired close proximity to the hospital. In addition, there are two independent videos which show the failure of the rocket launch and the continuation of rocket flight towards the ground within the Gaza stream falling in the hospital compound," said Daniel Hagari.
Despite Israel's clarification, Al Jazeera English did not change or edit its title. Therefore, both X formerly known as Twitter and Israel Defence Forces fact-checked Al Jazeera English.
Israel Defence Forces wrote, "Check your own footage before you accuse Israel. 18:59 - A rocket aimed at Israel misfired and exploded. 18:59 - A hospital was hit in Gaza. You had one job."
On the other hand, X fact-checked the news portal saying, "Al Jazeera was broadcasting and caught the entire event on video. At 18:59, a rocket emerging from Gaza, aimed at Israel, misfires and explodes. A few seconds later, still 18:59, the hospital in Gaza is hit. The rocket that hit the hospital came from within Gaza."
