As per netizens on social media, mild tremors were felt in the area of Anna Salai and Whites Road. As a result, Chennai Earthquake started to break the internet. However, a state of confusion erupted when Ravikant Singh, Scientist-F, National Center for Seismology denied it. Ravikant Singh, Scientist-F, National Center for Seismology was quoted saying that “the national network did not record any seismic activity near Chennai." After National Center for Seismology's denial, many locals wondered whether Chennai Earthquake was not actually a tremor but due to the construction of metro nearby Anna Salai and Whites Road. However, Chennai Metro Rail Limited tweeted and clarified that its work has not been taken up currently on Anna Salai.

The head of the South Zone of the Meteorological Research Center, Balachandran was quoted saying, “the National Seismological Observatory in Delhi has been informed that there has been an earthquake in Chennai. Such data has not yet been made available by the Centre." It is pertinent to mention here that the India Meteorological Department has also not released an official confirmation about the same. Now, the question arises what was the vibration or shake that the people of Chennai felt?
