Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has welcomed and expressed his share of gratitude over the PM’s announcement to rename Chandigarh International Airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

While addressing the press on the matter CM Mann thanked PM Modi’s step and informed how committed was his government to the cause. He said, “Being the state’s CM, I had talked to Haryana’s deputy CM over the matter last month and sent a letter to the Aviation Ministry after reaching a joint consensus.”

He further stated, “In our letter, we mentioned if we can rename the airport before September 28th, which is Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s birthday, it will be a taken as a gift for the people of the state.”

He was alongside AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal while briefing the media over the announcement. PM Modi earlier today in his monthly radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ announced the renaming of Chandigarh International Airport on September 28th.

The conflict to rename Chandigarh’s airport dates back to 2008 when it was first put forth by the Punjab government in Vidhan Sabha, 14 years later after numerous series of meetings, it is finally happening now.
