(Report by Ashispuri_Kapurthala) In a major operation this morning in the sub-division of Phagwara in Kapurthala, four police personnel posted at CIA Phagwara were arrested on charges of bribery. The entire team was apprehended this morning under the Prevention of Corruption Act. SSP Kapurthala confirmed the arrests and stated that the DIG of Jalandhar Range would soon hold a press conference on the matter.
Those arrested include CIA in-charge Bismann Singh Mahi, ASI Nirmal Kumar, ASI Jaswinder Singh, and Constable Jagraup Singh. This was also confirmed by DIG of Jalandhar Range, Naveen Singla, in a media interaction.
He further revealed that the accused had accepted a bribe of approximately ₹2.5 lakh to release a smuggler named Hanni from their custody. According to Singla, corruption within the police department is intolerable, and a large-scale investigation is underway to expose and take action against such personnel.
The arrested officers will be presented in court today after their medical examination. DIG Singla also mentioned that a formal case has been registered at Sadar Police Station, Phagwara, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
