O/O District Public Relations Officer, Jalandhar, January 6- Continuing its war against the drug mafia, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested three drug peddlers including a woman, and seized 26-kg opium from two Stepney of the vehicle they were traveling. 

The accused have been identified as Poonam Devi Rao (40), her son Krishna Rao (19) of Jamshedpur, and distant nephew Raja Kumar Bhagat (29) of East Singhbhum, Jharkhand.

Divulging more details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said CIA staff-1 head Harminder Singh got a tip-off that three of the accused were traveling in Silver Sumo (JH05-AP-8743) to deliver a consignment of opium to Amritsar today. 

He said following this, a check was laid at Pragpur under the supervision of ACP Major Singh and the cops stopped Silver Sumo (JH05-AP-8743) during the Naka. 

Commissioner of Police said the police party including women sleuths, checked the sumo and found two Stepneys (spare tyres). He said both Stepney was opened with the help of a wrench set. 

He said cops recovered 26-kg opium from one of the spare tyres, which was packed into 26 small plastic bags.

Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told the police party immediately arrested three of them and a case under section 18, 61, and 85 of NDPS Act has been registered against them in Cantonment Police Station.                                               

He said Poonam Devi Rao was delivering the opium in Amritsar from Jharkhand in the Sumo for the last six months along with son and distant nephew after getting supply from Jharkhand based drug smugglers. He said her son Krishna Rao is studying in +2 while Raja Kumar Bhagat was a Samosa-Pakora seller. 

 Commissioner of Police stated that three of them would be produced in the local courts and would be taken on remand for further questioning.
