Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today directed the officials of local bodies department to conclude the ongoing development projects under phase-1 of Punjab Urban Environment Improvement Programme (PUEIP) and submit funds utilisation certificate (UCs) by December 31, 2020.

Presiding over a meeting to review the ongoing projects, the Deputy Commissioner asked officials to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects under phase-1 within the deadline so that completion report could be sent to the state government. He asked officials of Municipal Corporation and local bodies department to prepare all the UCs of finished works.

Further, he directed them to start works under phase-2 of PUEIP at ground level and immediately complete pending paper work (tendering and work orders), if any. He asked officials to must start works under phase-2 within few days and send him reports. The Deputy Commissioner said that works worth Rs. 126 Crore was under pipeline including works of Rs. 95 Crore in Municipal Corporation's jurisdiction and works Rs. 31 Crore would be executed by the Municipal Councils of the district.

He said that these funds would give a major impetus to the overall development of the urban areas of the district. He said that the main motive of the scheme was to ensure comprehensive development of the urban areas of the district.

In another important development, the Deputy Commissioner ordered officials to efficiently implement the Proprietary Act in the district. He asked officials to identify slums in their areas and chalkout rehabilitation project of its habitants.
