Jalandhar, December 28: Member of Parliament Santokh SinghChaudhary said on Monday that the Congress party’s role in India’sdevelopment is unparalleled and the party not only fought forIndependence, but also laid the foundation of a strong and secular India. Tomark the 136th Foundation Day of the party, he led a Tiranga Yatra fromthe District Congress office to BMC Chowk and was accompanied by MLA RajinderBeri, Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, Jalandhar (Urban) Congress President Baldev SinghDev, Mahila Congress President Jasleen Sethi, Youth CongressPresident Angad Dutta and Municipal Councillor Balraj Thakur along withhundreds of party members. 

Speaking on the occasion, MP Chaudhary said that theCongress party started a public movement and its workers went to jails andsacrificed their lives to gain freedom from the British raj. 

“After Independence, the nation started from zero butthrough hard work and dedication, Congress put India, which was extremely poorin 1947, on track to be a great democracy and a global power. From PrimeMinister Jawaharlal Nehru to Dr Manmohan Singh, the INC has worked for the poorand marginalized. Our farmers brought in the Green Revolution and filled thegovernment's granaries, but now the Modi government is out to destroy thesame annadata in collusion with crony corporates,” he stated. 

Chaudhary Santokh Singh further said that India was built onthe idea of secularism, where no one was discriminated on the basis ofreligion, but BJP is out to demolish our constitutional values. “Our nation isthe product of blood and sweat of millions of freedom fighters and itsdemocratic institutions are respected all over the world, but the currentfascist regime is tearing them down,” he added. 

The Congress workers took a pledge to protect theconstitutional values and the institutions. 

MP Chaudhary urged everyone to stand with farmers and opposeall attempts by the Centre to cause harm to the people of India.
