Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has faced defeat from Kaithal assembly seat. Randeep Singh Surjewala lost from Kaithal by nearly 530 votes to BJP's Leela Ram.

Randeep Singh Surjewala is a two-time MLA from Kaithal. He won the assembly elections in 2014 and 2009 from Kaithal.

After the result in Kaithal, Randeep Singh Surjewala said he accepts the decision of the people of Kaithal "with humility".

Asked about the party's performance in Haryana, Surjewala said the party will soon introspect its performance.

The assembly election results so far suggest that Haryana is heading for towards a hung assembly. Neither the BJP nor the Congress appears to be in a position where either of them can form a government on its own.
