The Union Health Ministry on Friday said that India’s active Covid-19 caseload has fallen below 7 lakh for the first time after two months, expressing it as a ‘significant milestone’, whereas the total recoveries in the country have crossed 69 lakhs mark. “With a high number of Covid-19 patients recovering every day along with a steadily falling and sustained low mortality rate, India’s trend of registering decreasing active cases continues,” it stated.

Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech which has received approval for advance stage human trials for its Covid vaccine candidate, expects the vaccine to be ready by June 2021 unless the government proceeds with its launch through emergency use authorisation.

Sai Prasad, executive director, Bharat Biotech International Ltd said, the firm plans to test over 20,000 volunteers across 12to 14 states for Covaxin, its indigenous candidate. “If we get all the approvals in place, I think during Q2 of 2021, we should get the efficacy readout from our phase-3 clinical trial April, May, June, for example. That is for the full efficacy results,” Prasad said.
