Coronavirus updates: 44,489 new cases, 524 Covid-19 deaths reported in India

Global, coronavirus cases have crossed 6.02 crore, claiming 14.18 lakh lives so far.

According to the ministry of health and family welfare’s data on Thursday morning, India reported a rise of 44,489 daily cases with 524 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.

The country’s COVID-19 tally has touched 9,266,705 counts while as many as 8,679,138 patients have recovered pushing the recovery rate to 93.66%. The total death toll stood at 135,223.

As the cases continue to soar in few states and UTs, the Union ministry of home affairs on Wednesday introduced new Covid-19 guidelines, allowing the governments to impose stricter measures to control the situation and empowering them to impose local restrictions such as night curfews.

# Tamil Nadu recorded 1,534 new Covid-19 cases on November 25, pushing the state’s tally to 7.74 lakh. 

# With 18 lakh infection cases,  Maharashtra's COVID-19 tally remains the highest among Indian states and union territories, according to the health ministry's.


#  COVID-19 tally of five worst-affected states, according to the Union Health Ministry (includes recoveries, deaths and active cases):

  •  Maharashtra - 17,95,959 cases
  •  Karnataka - 8,78,055 cases
  •  Andhra Pradesh - 8,64,674 cases
  •  Tamil Nadu - 7,74,710 cases
  •  Kerala - 5,78,363 cases

# According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 13,59,31,545 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to November 25 with 10,90,238 samples being tested on Wednesday.

# Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Thursday tested positive for covid-19 becoming the third minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government to have contracted the virus. Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Health Minister Satyendar Jain had been infected with the coronavirus. An official said that Rai, who is also AAP's Delhi convenor, had met party workers around Diwali.

# Bihar's COVID-19 tally increased to 2,32,459 after 763 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, while four fresh fatalities pushed the state’s death toll to 1,237 on Wednesday.

# On Wednesday, 2 fatalities were reported in Assam, taking the state’s death toll to 978. With 182 fresh cases, the tally rose to 2,12,021.

# On Thursday, Jharkhand's COVID-19 tally increased to 1,08,158 after 237 more people tested positive for the disease, while three more fatalities have pushed the state's coronavirus death toll to 958.  

# Rajasthan reported 18 new fatalities on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 2,218, while 3,285 fresh cases increased the case tally to 2,53,767. The number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 26,320 in the state, while 2,25,229 people have recovered from the infection.
