Coronavirus updates: India’s COVID-19 tally is now over 71-lakh with 816 deaths reported in the last 24 hours

The Indian Council of Medical Research has said that 8,78,72,093 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till October 11. Of these, 9,94,851 were tested on Sunday, October 11.

Coronavirus Maharashtra 71-Lakhs-Cases

India records 66,732 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in India has now crossed 71 lakh mark while as many as 816 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The total fatalities in the country stand at 1,09,150. Of the recorded 71,20,539 infections, the number of patients recovered are 61,49,536, while 8,61,853 cases are still active. According to IMCR a total of 8,78,72,093 samples tested in the country up to 11th October. India continues to lead in the global position for recording maximum recovered cases as the number of recoveries is increasing. 

The Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that the vaccine's priority will be given to those who are occupational hazards from the virus and prone to exposure risk. He said healthcare professionals and people at the frontline engaged in COVID-19 management would be among the early recipients of the vaccine. 

About 37.3 million have been infected by coronavirus globally. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to introduce another lockdown on Monday to contain the spread of COVID as cases arise. Whereas social distancing requirements have been eased in South Korea and the governor of Jakarta has relaxed restrictions in Indonesia’s capital.  

Covid-19 latest development:

# The New Zealand government signed a deal on Monday to buy 1.5 million COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer Inc and Germany's BioNTech, with an expected delivery as early as the first quarter of 2021. It is estimated that the first vaccine purchase doses can vaccinate up to 750,000 people.  

# Jharkhand registered 574 new coronavirus cases on Monday, taking the state’s tally to 92,525, the death toll rose to 787, while Covid-19 tally in Andamans crossed 4,000-mark with 13 new cases.

# Tamil Nadu recorded 5015 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, taking the state’s tally to 6,56,385. On Sunday, with 65 deaths, the death toll in the state rose to 10,252. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu is 44,095 while as many as 5005 patients were discharged on Sunday following treatment, putting the total number of recoveries at 6,02,038.

# According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data, number of COVID cases in India’s 5 worst-affected states including recoveries, deaths and active cases are: 

  •  Maharashtra: 15,28,226 
  •  Andhra Pradesh: 7,55,727
  •  Karnataka: 7,10,309
  •  Tamil Nadu: 6,56,385
  •  Uttar Pradesh: 4,36,979

# Hindu Rao Hospital in Delhi was sanitized on Sunday, a day after 20 COVID-19 patients were shifted to two Delhi government hospitals, officials said. The OPD of the 900-bed hospital is expected to be reopened again to the regular patients in a few days.

# 9 new COVID cases were reported in Mizoram, taking the total tally to 2,184. The number of active cases in the state is 174 while 2,010 people have been discharged so far.

# Karnataka reported 9,523 fresh COVIDd-19 cases and 75 fatalities on Sunday, taking the total number of infections in the state to 7.10 lakh and death toll to 9,966, while 10,107 patients were discharged. 

# Nagaland's coronavirus tally crosses 7,000-mark with 70 fresh cases.
