COVID testing facility to be available at Mumbai airport for all passenger

Passengers can undergo the COVID-19 test at the airport itself before flying which will save their time from institutional quarantine after reaching their destination by producing their negative reports.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has now launched an express COVID-19 RT-PCR test facility for passengers departing from the airport. Passengers departing or arriving can undergo the covid tests themselves. Non-passengers visiting the airport to drop/receive family and friends can also use this facility.

The information about this facility was recently announced by a Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) spokesperson. Earlier, the airport made this facility available only for international transit passengers.

The MIAL stated that departing passengers can undergo the COVID test at the airport before setting off to their destination, which would give them an option to skip institutional quarantine at their destination by showing their negative test report. 

Reportedly, the facility is located on the curbside of Level 4 at Terminal 2 for departing passengers, which non-passengers can also use to see their covid health update. The  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in its statement mentioned that the COVID test report certificate will also be provided to departing passengers which they can produce at their destination, through which they can save themselves from quarantine period. 

The departing passengers have been advised to arrive at the terminal of the airport before 8-12 hours before scheduled departure to undergo the said test and get a report of the same at that time itself.

Airport officials said that it will take around 8-12 hours for the test result to come, so the reports will be mailed digitally to passengers or a passenger can book a slot and get himself or herself tested beforehand to get a physical copy of the test result while departing. 

Till now, as many as 3340 passengers have undergone COVID-19 tests at the airport, of whom 38 have tested positive and had been referred for institutional quarantine.
