Covid-19 vaccination drive: Minor side-effects in 51 cases in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched nationwide inoculation drive against Covid-19 with two vaccine candidates approved by the Drugs and Controller General of India (DCGI), yesterday.

While Covaxin is an indigenous vaccine prepared by Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech, Covishield is prepared by Serum Institue of India that is an equivalent of Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine.

After the immunisation program was rolled out by the government yesterday, 11 people in South and South-West district, 6 people in East as well as West districts, 5 in South East and the same number in New Delhi, 4 in North West while two in central district and one in North district developed minor side-effects.

However, one of the persons developed severe side-effects. Total 4,319 healthcare workers were inoculated in the city against the set target of 8,117.

Meanwhile, 1.91 lakh priority list healthcare and frontline workers were inoculated on the first day at 3,351 centers across India.

Covaxin was allotted to  six center run hospitals while 75 Delhi government and private hospital received Covishield.

During the launch event, that took place through virtual conference, the Prime Minister had cautioned people not to fall for "propaganda and rumours."
