
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus saidIndia had shown a great progress to tackle the number of Covid-19 cases. Hespoke about India's response to Covid-19 in an online news briefing fromGeneva, yesterday.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "This shows us thatif we can do these simple public health solutions, we can beat the virus...Withvaccines being added, we would even expect more and better outcomes."
WHO Chief also asked for ramping up of efforts to produceCovid-19 vaccine because there is a shortage of vaccine around the world. Heurged rich nations to share doses with poor countries by stating that almost130 countries with at least 2.5 billion as a population are yet to receive asingle dose of Covid-19 vaccine.
Tedros said, "Expanding production globally wouldalso make poor countries less dependent on donations from rich ones. These areunprecedented times and we applaud those manufacturers that have pledged, forexample, to sell their vaccines at cost."
"And we call on companies to share their dossierswith WHO faster and more fully than they have been doing, so we can review themfor emergency use listing," he added.
