In a major fight towards eradicating the menace of drugs, Malerkotla Police have executed a series of successful raids at 12 locations early this morning, leading to the arrest of  17 accused, including individuals lodged in jail, on charges of drug peddling to illegal possession of arms and ammunition.

This operation, a part of the Punjab Police's commitment to making the state drug-free under CM Bhagwant Singh Maan's vision and direction of DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav IPS, is a significant stride towards a safer and drug-free Malerkotla.

Of the arrested, five were already in custody, and one arrest was made for obstruction in police duty. Furthermore, an accused wanted by Rajasthan Police in connection to a dacoity case was successfully apprehended during the raids. The district police are actively coordinating with Rajasthan authorities for further proceedings.

The arrested individuals, including Tahir alias Bifaa, Mandip Singh alias Kala, Abdul Gaffar, Fajaldeep Singh, Mohammed Shakoor, Inderjeet Singh, Shamasad alias Fai So, Dilbaag Katar, Sabar Ali, Nagraj Sarma, Nazeer, Surjan Singh, Balveer Singh, and Naeem alias Nae, were found involved in an array of criminal activities such as drug peddling, illegal arms possession, cow slaughter, fraud, and theft.

SSP Khakh emphasised the gravity of the operation, stating, "Today's raids have dismantled major drug networks, and further revelations have surfaced during the accused's interrogation. We are determined to continue such actions to ensure a drug-free future for Malerkotla."

Notably, one of the apprehended individuals was wanted by Rajasthan Police in connection with a sensational dacoity case. The Rajasthan Police have been duly informed of the arrest.

The arrested accused will be presented in the local court, and their remand will be obtained for further investigation. Those still at large will be apprehended soon, as police teams are actively conducting raids.

SSP Khakh conveyed his appreciation to all the Police teams involved in the operation, acknowledging their dedication and commitment. The commendation certificates were presented as encouragement as he set forth the ambitious goal of declaring Malerkotla district completely drug-free soon. 

“The Malerkotla Police remain resolute in its mission, assuring the public that these decisive actions will persist, leaving no room for compromise in the battle against drugs,” said SSP Khakh.
