World’s largest cricket stadium to be built in India

Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium cricket stadium is set to be the world largest cricket ground will be built in Motera near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. M/S Populous, the firm that designed Melbourne Cricket ground, is working on Motera Cricket Stadium. The stadium has the capacity to fit in 110,000 people at one point of time which is way more than the Melbourne stadium which has capacity to fit in nearly 100,024 fans.

The stadium is expected to be ready in the next two years. It will overtake the Melbourne Cricket Ground as world largest cricket stadium once completed. The parking area will bear nearly 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers.

Parimal Nathwani, the vice-president of the Gujarat Cricket Association tweeted some pictures of the progress.

Cricket in India has always been a massive crowd puller and the popularity of the sport has grown even more in recent years with the introduction of new formats like T-20 and state leagues. India hosted the Cricket World Cup in 2011 and is planning to bid for the 2023 World Cup as a host.
