As per reports, the flagship flights that reached the Darbhanga airport from Bengaluru were given a traditional water salute. The passengers were welcomed with Mithila Paags (a traditional cap) and garlands.

Flights to Darbhanga will be run by SpiceJet, under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik).

Opening of passenger flight services from Darbhanga airport has come as a relief for those passengers who before had to travel to and from Patna which is the nearest airport. This will help people save a lot of travelling time.

Sharing the news on Twitter, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri praised the excellent teamwork by local leadership, professionals & officers. The AAI has constructed the airport as a civil enclave, which is part of an Indian Air Force base allocated for civil aviation operations.

The airport is located at Kevti, about 6 km from Darbhanga and the terminal can manage about 150 passengers at a time.
