Jalandhar Administration Sends Proposal worth Rs 7.65 Crore to Social Security and WCD Department; New Home to Be Built on 52-kanal Land

Jalandhar, February 6- The construction of new old-age home in Nahla village is set to begin soon with the district administration has sent a proposal to the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development. 

The administration has earmarked 52-Kanal land in the village where new home would come up at the cost of Rs 7.65 crore. 

Inspecting the site along with officials of various departments,Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that a committee has been set-up for ensuring the regular monitoring of the work. He said that the report has been sent to the department for the release of funds for the project. 

He said that Punjab Government led by the Capt Amarinder Singh has been continuously working for the betterment of senior citizens and old-age home is just a first step towards ensuring their welfare. 

He said that old-age home would provide shelter and safer space to elders, who have been either shunned by their own families or do not have anyone to take care of them. 

The Deputy Commissioner also revealed that the home would have the facilities like a free medical check-up, ambulance, food, clothes, and leisure activities.

Thori told that the administration would also allow all to be part of community activities to provide them with a homely and better living environment. 

The Deputy Commissioner also said that the district administration is committed to protecting the rights of the senior citizen. 

He said that it was need of the hour to ensure senior citizens develop a sense of belongingness adding it was our moral duty to respect and care our elders.   

He also appealed the people to come forward for the cause. 

On the occasion, Red Cross Secretary Inderdev Singh and others were present.
