

Jalandhar, February 6- The construction of new old-age homein Nahla village is set to begin soon with the district administration has senta proposal to the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development.
The administration has earmarked 52-Kanal land in thevillage where new home would come up at the cost of Rs 7.65 crore.
Inspecting the site along with officials of variousdepartments,Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that a committee has been set-up for ensuring the regular monitoringof the work. He said that the report has been sent to the department for therelease of funds for the project.
He said that Punjab Government led by the Capt AmarinderSingh has been continuously working for the betterment of senior citizens andold-age home is just a first step towards ensuring their welfare.
He said that old-age home would provide shelter and saferspace to elders, who have been either shunned by their own families or do nothave anyone to take care of them.
The Deputy Commissioner also revealed that the home wouldhave the facilities like a free medical check-up, ambulance, food, clothes, andleisure activities.
Thori told that the administration would also allow all tobe part of community activities to provide them with a homely and better livingenvironment.
The Deputy Commissioner also said that the districtadministration is committed to protecting the rights of the senior citizen.
He said that it was need of the hour to ensure seniorcitizens develop a sense of belongingness adding it was our moral duty torespect and care our elders.
He also appealed the people to come forward for the cause.
On the occasion, Red Cross Secretary Inderdev Singh andothers were present.
