Dead UP farmer's kin booked for draping body in National flag, as disrespect to Tricolor

After the death of UP farmer, the body of the deceased was allegedly draped in the National Flag. The police have now booked Balvinder Singh's wife and brother, as per report published in The Times of India.

After the death of a 32 year old Balvinder Singh, the UP police have booked his wife and brother for allegedly insulting or disrespecting the national flag of India.

Balvinder had left for the Ghazipur border on January 23 while the family got a call from the police about his death on February 1. Delhi Police had told the family that he had died in a road accident.

After his autopsy at the Lal Bahadur Shashtri hospital, Singh's body was handed over the family and his last rites were performed in his village.

Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, SHO of Seramau North Police station said, "His wife Jasveer Kaur, brother Gurvinder Singh and an unidentified person have been booked under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act."

Balvinder's brother, Gurvinder Singh justified draping tricolor around the dead body of his brother becuase he said the farmers are fighting for the country while funeral is a sacred ritual and it was a patriotic gesture. He said, his brother was a martyr for the cause of farmers protesting at Delhi.

Virendra Singh, younger brother of Balvinder had questioned about the death of his brother. He said Balvinder's dead body had multiple injuries on face, he would have received injuries or fractures if mowed down by any vehicle.
