Due to the non-interlocking work at Jandiala station, there have been major train service disruptions in the Sahnewal-Amritsar section. In the public notice issued by the Firozpur Division of Indian Railways, they highlighted the need to perform infrastructure upgrades for building multipurpose longer loops. The notice states that this will impact train operations from 5th June to 24th June 2025.
Main service disruptions
Complete cancellation of the following major trains for a specific duration
From June 21 to June 24, major trains that connect the following cities will also be cancelled for different durations. The following will be cancelled:
- Sharjedhar Express served by Chandigarh to Amritsar (12411/12412)
- Intercity Express served by Amritsar to Nangal dam (14505/14506)
- Intercity Express from Amritsar to Haridwar (12054/12053)
- Jalandhar to Amritsar by Jalandhar City Jammer (74641)
Short terminations and short originations
This is exemplified by the fact that some trains have begun using ‘halfway’ points’ for rest rather than the traditional endpoints.
- So too does claim Cheharrta (64551) from Ludhiana to Cheharrta, who will reach Tangra from June 5 to June 23.
- Cheharrta-Ludhiana (64552) during that period will be Togra.
- From New Delhi to Amritsar (12497) will stop at Jalandhar City on June 23.
Amritsar to New Delhi (12498) on June 23 will be amritsar bound to Jalandhar City for departure.
Change of Schedule
Several trains, including services between Amritsar and Nangal Dam, Amritsar and Sealdah, and Amritsar and Nanded, among others, will be controlled on particular dates.
Detours
A good number of long distance trains will be changed to other routes because of the affected section. For Example:
- Pathankot-Old Delhi (22430) will be shifted to Mukerian and Jalandhar Cantt instead of Amritsar and Jalandhar City on most days between June 5 and June 23
- Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri (12408) and other trains will change to Trans Taran and Beas instead of Beas on some days.
Public Notice
Passengers are suggested to check the latest schedules for the trains along the affected routes, before executing plans during the affected timelines. These travelers should be alert and prepared with alternative plans as required.
Instruction on infrastructure changes states these are being done to assist with important work at Jandiala station which will in turn allow for improved services in the future.”
