Delhi, on Monday, has reported 613 new cases of Covid-19, its lowest single-day tally in nearly two months. The count, however, coincided with lower testing numbers.

According to the state health department, only 11,904 tests – 3,821 RT-PCR and 7,685 rapid antigen tests – were conducted in the last 24 hours, against an average of 19,000 tests done between Monday & Saturday.

On the previous Monday on July 20 as well, Delhi’s count of cases had fallen below 1,000 for the first time in over a month. Despite the lower testing, the drop in fresh cases was another indication that the infection curve was flattening in the capital.

In this regard, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the coronavirus death curve in the national capital has flattened after a 44 percent decline in deaths in June. The Delhi CM emphasized that the figure needs to go down to zero."

Delhi flattens the death curve, COVID deaths down 44 percent in June. Personally, this has been my most important mission from the beginning of the pandemic. We will not get complacent even now. This figure needs to come down to ZERO," tweeted Kejriwal.

Kejriwal had yesterday said that the COVID-19 recovery rate in the national capital has reached around 88 percent. Delhi is now on the 10th spot in the country as far as the number of active cases is concerned, added Kejriwal.

"Today, Delhi reaches 10th position. People are recovering and No of active cases are steadily going down," the CM had tweeted on Sunday.

As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi has 10994 active cases with 3853 deaths and 116372 recoveries/discharged.

Last week, an AIIMS doctor had told news agency IANS that aggressive testing helped the national capital in fighting its way out of the crisis.

Dr. Neeraj Nischal, the Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at AIIMS, said: "It is clear that policy of test, trace, isolate and treat cases is bound to decrease the number of cases. This is exactly what is happening in Delhi, as cases have begun to decline".

"I would like to add the other crucial reason for the decline in cases is due to the participation of the people. Most people diligently followed social distancing norms, which eventually helped," he had added.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently stated: "We have increased testing in Delhi. Initially, on testing 100 people, around 31 were found to be corona positive, and today, only 13 out of 100 people are found to be corona positive. These things show that the situation is under control, and is not as terrible as it was one month back."
