Delhi MCD Elections: AAP dethrones BJP after 15 years, clean sweeps with 126 seats

Arvind Kejriwal has destabilized the 15-year-long Congress dominance in Delhi, as well as the 15-year-long (BJP) rule in the MCD.

The AAP won a majority in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. Out of 250 seats, the Election Commission reports that AAP is in the lead in 17 seats and has won 126. BJP, on the other hand, is using the second number. The party currently holds a lead in 8 seats and has won 97 so far. Congress, however, has gained 7 seats. Independent candidates win 3. A majority in the MCD requires 126 seats. Here, the BJP ruled for 15 years.

After registering victory, Manish Sisodia and Raghav Chadha hurried to the residence of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann joined them.

As soon as the first trends arrived at 8 a.m., the BJP and AAP went neck-to-neck. Between the two parties, there was a disparity of 10 to 20 seats in the first two hours. BJP and AAP each had their moments of dominance. But around 10.30 am, everything changed, as AAP overtook the BJP in the race.

Since the morning, the AAP office has had balloons and jubilant posters on hand. Yellow and blue balloons have been used to decorate the workspace. They were formerly decked with balloons in the colours white and blue. However, as the trend continued in your office, there was a first celebration, then sadness, and finally an environment of celebration.

In the morning, no leader showed up at the BJP headquarters. However, there was a disturbance in the workplace as soon as the results were announced.

On the other hand, since morning, there has been no one at the Congress office. The entrance to the office was locked.

These are the first civic elections since the MCD was reunified and the wards were redesigned after it was separated into three areas roughly ten years ago. The BJP's most recent term came to a conclusion early this year. The competition has almost 1,300 contestants.

The turnout was 3% lower this time. On December 4, 250 Delhi Municipal Corporation wards went to the polls. The Election Commission reports that this time, voter turnout is close to 50%. 53.55% of eligible voters cast ballots in 2017. In other words, if we look at the numbers up to this point, there was 3% less voting this time.
