
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa onThursday morning, conducted a surprise check at Police Nakas on GT Road to knowthe ground situation and to assess the traffic situation at congested places onthe road. He also ordered suspension of four police personnel on charges ofnegligence of duty, out of which three were from Phillaur (Jalandhar) and onefrom Gobindgarh (Fatehgarh Sahib).
Mr. Randhawa, who also holds the charge of HomeDepartment, expressed displeasure over the laxity in police arrangements fortraffic at Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib district. Similarly, during checkingat Naka, after crossing the Sutlej Bridge, GT Road in Phillaur (JalandharDistrict), he asked Police personnel posted at the police check post on theroad to perform their duties actively and remain alert .
Followingthe checking done by the Deputy Chief Minister, SSP Fatehgarh Sahib SandeepGoyal suspended ASI Gurmeet Singh, posted as Traffic Incharge at Gobindgarh andordered a departmental inquiry. Notably, there was a traffic jam at GT roadGobindgarh and the traffic in-charge was not present on the spot.
Similarly, after the spot checks carried out by the Deputy ChiefMinister at the police check post at Phillaur, the SSP Jalandhar Rural SatinderSingh suspended ASI Jaswant Singh, ASI Balwinder Singh and Constable KuljitSingh for dereliction in duty and a departmental inquiry was ordered.
Deputy Chief Minister Randhawa said that dereliction ofduty would not be tolerated and no compromise would be made with the security.He said that in view of the festive season, the police should be on high alertfor the safety of the people besides ensuring smooth functioning of the trafficfor the convenience of commuters.
