Despite brother's support Sonu Sood's sister Malvika fails to register win in Moga, know the reason of her defeat

Punjab Election Result 2022: Malvika Sood, sister of film actor Sonu Sood, has lost from Moga seat. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Dr Amandeep Kaur defeated Malvika by a margin of 20915 votes.

Punjab Election Result 2022: Malvika Sood, sister of film actor Sonu Sood, has lost from Moga seat. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Dr Amandeep Kaur defeated Malvika by a margin of 20915 votes. 

While Barjinder Singh Brar of Akali Dal stood third. Moga is one of the high profile seats in Punjab and Malvika Sood, sister of film actor Sonu Sood, was in the fray but she did not win.

Malvika's fight joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from her party and the current MLA is from Harjot Kamal. Shiromani Akali Dal Barjinder Singh presented his challenge to Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora of the Aam Aadmi Party but did not get success.

Congress got a victory last time

The Moga assembly seat has been considered an important seat of Punjab since its inception. Congress had won this seat in the assembly elections held 5 years ago in 2017. 

Harjot Kamal Singh of Congress defeated Ramesh Grover of the Aam Aadmi Party by 1764 votes in a tight contest. Moga assembly seat comes in Faridkot district. Congress's Mohammad Sadiq is the MP from this seat. He defeated Gulzar Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal by 83,356 votes.


Congress won 10 times in 15 elections

Vidhan Sabha elections are being fought on the Moga assembly seat since 1957. Out of the 15 assembly elections held so far, the Congress party has won 10 times. Joginder Pal Jain has won the Moga seat three times in a row before Dr Harjot Kamal. 

He was elected on a Congress ticket in 2007 and 2012, later he joined the Shiromani Akali Dal and this led to a by-election in 2013, in which Joginder Pal won.

Malvika had joined Congress in January

Actor Sonu Sood's sister Malvika had joined the Congress on January 10. Malvika got Congress membership in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. On this, CM Charanjit Singh Channi said, 'It is a matter of luck that a person from such a good family is coming to our party.' 

While Navjot Singh Sidhu said, 'Sonu Sood is known all over the world for his humanity and kindness and today a member of that family is joining us. She is an educated woman.
