
DIG(Jails) Lakhwinder Singh Jakhar, who is currently under suspension on graftcharges, on Sunday, submitted his resignation citing reason that he was doingso to protest against the contentious farm laws and that he would join thefarmers protest at Delhi.
Thegovernment is yet to accept the resignation. Meanwhile, Jakhar was suspended a few monthsago for allegedly taking money from jail officials on a monthly basis.
Inhis resignation letter, Jakhar, who also served the Indian Army, wrote: "Iam a farmer first and a police officer later. Whatever position I have gottoday, it is because my father worked as a farmer in the fields and he made mestudy. Hence, I owe my everything to farming.
Hetold the media that his mother encouraged him to resign so as to sit withfarmers in Delhi.
"Iam likely to visit Delhi soon," he added.
