The Punjab Government has come out with its decision regarding the bursting of firecrackers in the state. On Wednesday, it announced that a 2-hour-time period will be given for the bursting of firecrackers all across the state. This decision has been rolled out both for Diwali as well as Gurpurab. Reportedly, a complete ban has been imposed in Jalandhar and Mandi Gobindgarh to control the deteriorating air quality index of these cities.

The orders will be rolled out by the deputy commissioners and police of respective districts on the recommendation of the Punjab Pollution Control Board. Also, not to kill the charm of the festival, PPCB has allowed the locals to burst ‘green crackers’ in all the districts.

The National Green Tribunal has also passed orders in this regard requesting the people not to burst crackers or use green crackers to celebrate Diwali and Gurpurab. It has been stated that the bursting of crackers will likely aggravate the problem of COVID along with others.

For the information, green crackers are the ones with the lowest emission of smoke. These are produced with less harmful raw materials and do not contain harmful chemicals which can pose a threat to the environment.

According to the schedule that has been revealed, here are timings when the locals will get a free window to burst crackers:

1. October 24, Diwali: 8 pm to 10 pm

2. November 8, Gurpurab: 4 am to 5 am and 9 pm to 10 pm

3. December 25, Christmas: 11:55pm to 12:30 am

4. December 31, New Year: 11:55 pm to 12:30 am

The order that has been released by the state government states that community cracker bursting will be promoted in the state. It added that the district and police administration must ensure compliance with time during the violence.

The police administration has also rolled out orders stating that if any violators are found then a proper case will be registered against the same.

As the national capital sees a complete ban on firecrackers, Punjab wholesalers are being offered heavy discounts by their counterparts in Delhi.
