India's Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar on Thursday visited Amritsar to campaign for BJP's Lok Sabha candidate Taranjit Singh. However, S Jaishankar's Amritsar visit took a wrong turn when he was seen uncomfortable and his security pushed back reporters trying to take his byte or statement. S Jaishankar was literally mobbed by camerapersons and journalists present there as everyone wanted to take his statement. Seeing this, Jaishankar's security pushed the journalists back. In the video, other BJP leaders can be heard saying that no one should come close and ask the questions from a distance. However, the place became so noisy and crowded that the External Affairs Minister could not answer any of the questions. Not only this, Jaishankar even clapped to draw attention that he is speaking. Not only this, Jaishankar 'Ssshheed' people who were present there.

For the unversed, BJP has fielded Taranjit Singh Sandhu as its candidate from Amritsar for Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Taranjit Singh Sandhu is India’s former Ambassador to the United States. Sandhu was born into a family credited with building iconic Sikh institutions and for its role in freeing up gurdwaras from British-appointed administrators through movements intertwined seamlessly with India’s freedom struggle. Sandhu is a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer who retired in February started his political debut from Amritsar after joining the BJP.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu is the grandson of Teja Singh Samundri. As per reports, Teja Singh Samundri, played a major role in the Gurdwara Reform Movement and the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was the founder member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and in recognition of his services to the Sikh Panth, the SGPC named its headquarters in Amritsar as “Teja Singh Samundri Hall”.

BJP in Punjab

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday night announced three more candidates for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Punjab. In its fresh list, the BJP announced Dr. Shubhash Sharma will fight Lok Sabha Polls from Anandpur Sahib, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi from Firozpur, and Arvind Khanna from Sangrur. With this, the BJP has announced 12 candidates out of 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. Only BJP candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib is yet to be announced. Notably, it is among those rare times when the BJP is fighting Lok Sabha Elections without any alliance in Punjab. However, to solve the permutation and combination of its candidates' faces, the BJP has fielded at least six former Congress leaders. The six leaders are- Preneet Kaur, Sushil Rinku, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Arvind Khanna, Ravneet Bittu, and Hans Raj Hans.
