EC notifies two BJP leaders to stay out of campaigning

Two senior BJP leaders has been notified by election officials to stay out of the Delhi campaign trail as they continue a crackdown on controversial public remarks on the protesters opposing the amended Citizenship Act.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur was filmed leading chants of, "Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro s**lon ko (shoot the traitors of the nation) on Monday, has been banned for 72 hours.

BJP MP Parvesh Verma has been banned for 4 days as on Tuesday he said that protesters at Shaheen Bagh were capable of raping and killing women.

EC on Wednesday had ordered both men to get-off the BJP's star campaigners list.

Another BJP leader, Kapil Mishra has been banned earlier for commenting about Shaheen Bagh.

Delhi voters have cast their vote on February 8 to decide what is largely shaping up to be a two-way contest between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP. Results will be announced on February 11.
