Economic Survey 2020 to be presented in Parliament today, President Kovind addresses MPs

Prior to the presentation of Union Budget 2020 by Finance Minster Nirmala Sithraman on February 1, the government will be releasing the Economic Survey for 2019-2020 on Jnauary 31.

The Economic Survey is an annual document of the finance ministry which reviews economic progress and issues of the past fiscal year and particularly provide with the details of well performed government's development schemes. The survey also analyses performance of important government policies and their impact.

Key fiscal developments , inflation, macroeconomic factors and other economic factors will be discussed in the document, providing a concrete indicator for economic performance during the fiscal. It also talks about the impact of climate change agriculture and employment on the country's economy.

The report has been prepared by a team headed by government's Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) and will be released after FM Sitharaman's approval. Currently, Krishnamurthy V Subramanian is the CEA.

The report will be tabled in both the houses of the Parliament on January 31, followed by a press conference, Subramanian and his team will discuss an economic roadmap for the next fiscal year.

President Ram Nath Kovind is addressing MP's of Parliament, said in the last year a new record of work has been establihsed, path-breaking laws like triple talaq bill, consumer protection bill, chit fund amendment law, motor vehicle act, transgender right protection bill are vital achievements of the government.

President Kovind lauds the scrapping of Article 370 and CAA says any kind of violence protests in the name of passed bills weakens the society and the country.

The work of Kartarpur Corridor was completed by the government in the record time on the auspicious occassion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji said President Kovind.

We condemn the prosecution of minorities in Pakistan. We are open for citizenship to all, who are ready to follow the due legal procedures and guidelines says President Kovind.

However, the economic survey for the year is expected to highlight some of the key economic challenges which led to a sharp fall in GDP growth in the current fiscal along with a roadmap aimed at recovery.
