The day of Eid-e-Milad or Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Prophet of Islam, Hazrat Mohammad Saheb. The festival is celebrated in the month of Rabi al-Awwal which is the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The day is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi al-Awwal.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi is also known as Milad, which is an Arabic word and means ‘giving birth’. On this day, Muslims pay tribute to Prophet Mohammad. Many Muslim denominations regard the 12th Rabi' al-Awwal as the actual birth anniversary, the Shias celebrate it on the 17th Rabi' al-Awwal. However, most of the followers of Islam believe that the Prophet Muhammed was born in Mecca on the twelfth day of Rabi' al-Awwal in 570 CE.
