Tesla founder & billionaire Elon Musk has been under the scanner over accusations of withholding accounts showcasing farmers' protest 2024. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has accused Elon Musk-owned social media website X of withholding and deleting its tweet which was critical of the Modi Government in the backdrop of farmers' protest. In the past, Musk had also received a legal notice from SGPC in a separate case. Now, Elon Musk-owned social media website X has finally broken its silence in a detailed statement on farmers' protest. Below is what X said on farmers protest 2024-

"The Indian government has issued executive orders requiring X to act on specific accounts and posts, subject to potential penalties including significant fines and imprisonment.

In compliance with the orders, we will withhold these accounts and posts in India alone; however, we disagree with these actions and maintain that freedom of expression should extend to these posts.

Consistent with our position, a writ appeal challenging the Indian government's blocking orders remains pending. We have also provided the impacted users with notice of these actions in accordance with our policies.

Due to legal restrictions, we are unable to publish the executive orders, but we believe that making them public is essential for transparency. This lack of disclosure can lead to a lack of accountability and arbitrary decision-making," wrote X on its Global Government Affairs profile.

Farmers Protest suspended for two days

Farmers on Wednesday announced to suspend the 'Delhi Chalo' march for two days, and will decide their next course of action on Friday evening. The decision was announced by farmers' leader Sarwan Singh Pandher while addressing the media. Farmers have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana borders for the past few days to press the Centre into accepting their demands on minimum support price (MSP) for crops and other issues.

Sarwan Singh Pandher talking to the media said, "We have told the government that you can kill us but please don't oppress the farmers. We request the Prime Minister to come forward and put an end to this protest by announcing a law on the MSP guarantee for the farmers...The country will not forgive such a govt...There are paramilitary forces deployed in the villages of Haryana...What crime have we committed?... We have made you the Prime Minister. We never thought that the forces would oppress us this way...Please protect the Constitution and let us peacefully head towards Delhi. This is our right..."
