In a step to improve law and order of the district, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has issued a series of stringent restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. These orders will remain in effect until September 6, 2025, across the entire jurisdiction of the Jalandhar Commissionerate.

Key Restrictions and Orders given by CP Dhanpreet Kaur

  • Ban on Weapons in Public & Events

Carrying any type of weapon, including sharp-edged tools, pointed objects, and deadly items such as baseball bats, within vehicles or during public gatherings is strictly prohibited.

  • Restrictions on Gatherings:

Public processions, rallies, and gatherings of more than five individuals carrying weapons or raising slogans have been banned.

  • Marriage Palaces & Banquet Halls:

Citizens are banned from carrying weapons at marriage functions, banquets, or any other social events. Owners of such venues are directed to install CCTV cameras for surveillance.

  • Tenant Verification Mandatory:

Homeowners and PG (paying guest) operators must provide details of all tenants to the nearest Punjab Police Sanjh Kendra. No tenant should be housed without prior police intimation.

  • Strict Hotel and Guest House Protocols:

Hotels, motels, guest houses, and inns are banned from accommodating anyone without valid photo ID proof. Self-attested copies of IDs and verified mobile numbers must be recorded in a register, which will be submitted daily to the concerned police officer and verified weekly.

  • Daily Reporting and Weekly Verification:

Details of all guests staying in such accommodations must be submitted to local police every morning by 10 AM. Records will be cross-verified every Monday.

  • Foreign Guest Protocols:

In case of a foreign national's stay, the Foreign Registration Office (FRO) at the Commissioner’s Office must be informed without delay.

  • Mandatory CCTV Installation:

All hotels, motels, guest houses, and inns must install CCTV cameras at reception counters, corridors, lifts, and entry/exit points.

  • Firecracker Dealers Alerted:

All firecracker manufacturers and dealers must ensure that decibel levels are clearly printed on packaging.

  • Action Against Suspicious Guests:

If any suspicious or wanted person is found staying at a hotel or guest house, the owner or manager must immediately inform the local police station or control room.
