In a massive development, Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested former Vigilance AIG Ashish Kapoor in a 2016 corruption case. Ashish Kapoor's arrest came as a massive development as he was accused of taking a Rs 1 Crore bribe from Poonam Rajan's mother Prem Lata when she along with brother Kuldeep Singh and sister-in-law Preeti, were in police remand in case FIR No. 151/2018 u/s 420/120-B IPC at Zirakpur Police station. Now, Ashish Kapoor's arrest has opened a pandora box of questions that are indeed worth noting.

As per the information received, Ashish Kapoor's name has been popping out in multiple scams. To name some, his name has popped up in the forest scam. It has been alleged that he did corruption in order to suppress the matter. Not only this, but his name has also been popping out in the Rs 100 core irrigation scam. In the irrigation scam case, Ashish Kapoor has been accused of not conducting the proper investigation and is alleged to be 'hand in gloves' with the suspects. Notably, when the Vigilance raided Ashish Kapoor's residence, many luxurious items were spotted, therefore, he also can be charged with disproportionate assets.
Notably, Ashish Kapoor has been with the Vigilance for many years and if he was obstructing any kind of investigation, then another question arises whether he got someone's support from the (then) government. In this investigation, two big names are also coming up who have now come under the radar of Vigilance. Now, it will interesting whether Vigilance will crack down the corruption from its own department or not. Furthermore, another name of a private party is popping up in the case who is said to be an influential person of Chandigarh and he has big links with the 'protectors' of Ashish Kapoor.

This matter was of that time when Ashish Kapoor being posted as Superintendent, Central Jail, Amritsar, in 2016 had got acquainted with Poonam Rajan who was under judicial remand in the Jail in a case. When Poonam Rajan, along with her mother Prem Lata, brother Kuldeep Singh and sister-in-law Preeti, was in police remand at Zirakpur Police Station, Ashish Kapoor went to the police station and fraudulently convinced Poonam Rajan's mother Prem Lata that he will arrange their bail and acquittal from the court.
Ashish Kapoor, in connivance with Pawan Kumar, the then SHO, Zirakpur Police Station, and ASI Harjinder Singh, got Preeti, sister-in-law of Poonam Rajan declared innocent in the case. Furthermore, Kapoor obtained the signatures of Prem Lata on different cheques amounting to Rs. 100,00,000/- and deposited them under the names of his known ones, and got them encashed through ASI Harjinder Singh.
