Harjinder Singh Dhami, head of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), expressed his regret and agony at Ranaut's hurtful statements on Punjab and Punjabis. Talking to media, the SGPC executive committee announced that resolutions have been passed against the arbitrary actions of forcing the Amritdhari (initiated) Sikh candidates to remove Kirpan in the judicial examination in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur and Kangana Ranaut’s comments against Punjabis.

“Kangana’s statement that terrorism is increasing in Punjab is an expression of her sick mentality, while the truth is that the terrorism is being spread through her tongue, polluting the atmosphere of the country. Kangana should never forget that if the multi-ethnic and multilingual culture of the country was alive today, it was because of the sacrifices made by the Punjabis for the country,” he added.

Saying this, the SGPC president also called for an investigation into the incident that transpired between Kangana and the CISF jawan at the Chandigarh airport. The Mandi MP had then linked this incident to rising extremism and terrorism in Punjab.

Talking about the incident in Rajasthan, the SGPC president said that action has been sought from the government against the guilty officials in the case of harassing and forcing the Amritdhari Sikh candidates to remove their Kakaars (Sikh symbols of faith) in the judicial examination in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. He further said that the Centre government should order the Rajasthan government to take action to register cases of hurting religious sentiments against the accused officials who barred Sikh candidates and forced them to remove Kakaars as under Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, Sikhs have the right to wear Kirpan, therefore, the arbitrary actions taken in Rajasthan are a gross violation of the Constitution.
