Fact Check: Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to be resumed from July 1?

A document has been circulating on the internet, this document claims that Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for the Government employees would resume from July 1.

On Saturday, the Finance Ministry has clarified that any order has not been passed by it related to the resumption of DA and DR of the government employees and pensioners. This fake document has been surfacing on the internet since Saturday. The document claims that the frozen Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be resumed from July 1, Thursday. It also claims that “these orders shall apply to all central government employees and central government pensioners.”

A media agency has taken Twitter to announce that the document is fake. It stated, “A document is doing rounds on social media claiming that Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for Central government employees and pensioners will be resumed from July 2021.

This claim is Fake. No such announcement has been made by the Government of India.”

The same information is shared by the Ministry of Finance. The tweet read, “A document is doing rounds on social media claiming resumption of DA to Central Government employees & Dearness Relief to Central Government pensioners from July 2021.

This Order of Merit is Fake. No such OM has been released by GOI.”

After the document was viral, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi demanded immediate release of DA and DR. Rahul Gandhi tweeted on the issue (in Hindi) and used the hashtag “release_DA_and_DR”.

His tweet read, “Even in the Covid pandemic, instead of increasing the courage of 113 lakh employees engaged in the service of the country, the central government is trying to snatch their hard-earned money. Soldiers, government employees and pensioners ₹ Looting Rs 37,500 crore is a crime. #Release_DA_and_DR”.

On 23 April 2020, the government issued an order, which stated that no arrears would be paid from January 1, 2020, to April 30, 2021. The order read, “As and when the decision to release the future installment of DA and DR due from January 1, 2020, is taken by the government, the rates of DA and DR as effective from January 1, 2020, would be restored prospectively from July 1, 2021.”

The three installments of DA and DR are frozen due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These installments are of January 1, 2020, July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2021.
