A pregnant woman was carried to the hospital on a horse cart by her family members in Majuli, the constituency of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The woman, who is a resident of Bhekeli Chapori of the river island district was carried on a horse cart for 8 km and then on a boat to reach a government-run hospital.
The condition of roads and healthcare facilities in Assam’s river island district Majuli is miserable. It was due to the condition of roads that no ambulance could make it to the area.
A local youth said, "Road connectivity in our area is worst. We carry the patients to the hospital using a horse cart or hand cart and also have to cross the river."
We appeal the Chief Minister to look into this. We are facing a lot of problems, the local youth added.
Many villagers have earlier also carried patients on hand cart or horse cart to reach hospitals. Last year, a teacher from Majuli died due to lack of poor road connectivity and medical treatment.
